A Good Question

I recently read The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive: A Leadership Fable by Patrick Lencioni. It fell a bit short for me, but admittedly, I found it challenging to apply to my sphere of thinking and leading in the classical Christian education world. (I found his book The Advantage about organizational health much more applicable because it was not locked into a specific business field...) However, it was an easy, quick read, and considering its merits, I am glad I read it for this reason. It led me to contemplate the following question, asked early on in the fable:

"What is the one thing I do that really matters to the firm?"

Which translates for me:

"What is the one thing I do that really matters to the school?"

Rich O'Connor comes up with four.

What will my conclusions be? How will they change me?

It's a good question.

"Similarly, we have a lot of empty spaces in our lives. I call them interstices. Say you are coming over to my place. You are in an elevator and while you are coming up, I am waiting for you. This is an interstice, an empty space.

I work in empty spaces..." - Umberto Eco
